Shri Narendra Modi, the Indian Prime Minister, made use of video conferencing technology to inaugurate the New Integrated Terminal Building of Veer Savarkar International Airport, Port Blair on Tuesday.

The PM addressed the gathering by mentioning that there is an increasing requirement for the Veer Savarkar International Airport to handle lots of passengers these days. The construction of the new terminal will help to satisfy this demand to a considerable extent. Besides that, Modi also stated that he was missing the opportunity to be present at the inauguration ceremony in person and enjoy the occasion to the fullest.

Will be able to handle 11,000 passengers

Furthermore, the prime Minister also informed that it would be possible for the new terminal to accommodate as many as 11,000 passengers instead of 4,000 which the present terminal can handle at present. Also, it will be possible to park 10 planes simultaneously at the airport right now. It will provide employment facilities to the local residents, thus prospering the economic condition of this area to a great extent.

On top of this, Modi also added that there will be a boost to tourism right here due to all these facilities that the new terminal provides right now. We are all expecting an increasing number of tourists in Andaman and Nicobar, thanks to the introduction of mobile connectivity, airport facilities, health infrastructure, and roadways. Modi also mentioned that compared to 2014, the arrival of tourists in the area has doubled in recent times.

The PM requested his countrymen to make their best efforts for the prosperity of their nation while coming to the conclusion of his address. He cited the examples of many islands across the globe that have been successful in prospering economically at present. He was confident that the Andaman and Nicobar Islands will also be a prosperous region since the government is taking measures to do so.
